Paul Short is a Toronto-based director with a particular love for comedy.
His early years at Second City gave him a performer’s perspective on timing, delivery, and what makes a comedic moment actually land. He began his career as a commercial editor, where he developed a sharp sense of rhythm and was exposed to high-level visual effects work, before making the move into directing where his real interest had always been. Working with performers and having lots of laughs on comedy sets.
Paul’s style lives somewhere between silly and slightly absurd, grounded by an elevated cinematic look. He’s especially drawn to wacky characters, awkward moments, and the tiny behavioural details that make a scene funny without announcing that it’s trying to be.
When he’s not directing, Paul is usually writing and developing film and television projects, or cooking something unnecessarily elaborate for friends and family.
